What makes the Trinity special?

The Trinity River has the last, best salmon and steelhead runs in California. Careful watershed management has kept the conditions optimal for trout, salmon, and steelhead long after other California Rivers have lost their native fish species. You need to experience the wild nature of the Trinity to believe it.

When is the best time to fish the Trinity?

It depends on what you want to catch. There are fish in the river all year long, including large brown trout, rainbow trout, salmon June-September, and the famous steelhead October-December. Winter is a great time to catch big fish on the Trinity, but 'springers' are out there in May, too. Bait fishing, fly fishing, drifting, all have their time and place on the Trinity throughout the year.

When is steelhead season?

Fall and winter. October to December-January is a good time to catch steelhead. Contact us for current conditions.

Are steelhead hard to land?

Not with the right guide! Yes, they do fight, but just look at our photos page for what you can catch.

What if I don't have the right gear for steelhead?

We can provide most all of the needed supplies and equipment. Talk to us about what you might bring of your own, what we will provide, and local outfitters for anything else.

What are steelhead, anyway?

Steelhead are ocean-going rainbow trout, that return upstream, like salmon. Salmon and trout are in the same family of salmonids. The Trinity even has a rare ocean-going species of brown trout.

Why should I use a fishing guide?

Fishing with a guide means success. We can educate, supply, and protect you on our local waters. This ensures your trip will be productive, efficient, and fun. There's no substitute for exploring Trinity with a guide experienced with the river and with the local fish, the seasons, the bait and the flies. You'll actually save time and money.

How much does guide service cost?

Typical rates for professional guides are about $400/day. Call or write us for details customized to your needs.

What do I need to bring?

First of all, you need a valid California fishing license, with appropriate stamps and report cards for the fishing we'll be doing. We can advise you on this when you contact us. You can also buy licenses online now.

Second, bring your own gear and waders if you have them. Again, we can advise you on the right equipment if you're not sure what to bring. We can recommend local outfitters if you need it.

Dress for any weather, as it can be changeable at any time in Trinity. By default, dress warm and in layers. The right clothing can make the difference between a splendid day on the water in comfort, or cutting it short and going home...or worse, hypothermia.

Remember your sunscreen, sunglasses (polarized is best), and camera!

How do I get to there?
